Wow, that sounds great. Some friends of the family moved to Canada for a year about 8 years ago, but they’ve never come back haha. Do you have any fun stories?
I’ll have to have a think but the first one that comes to mind is that we were around while they were shooting Lord of the Rings. We lived in a town called Taupo which is on the shore of Lake Taupo. The whole area is very geothermally active and Lake Taupo itself is the crater left by the eruption of huge volcano several thousand years ago. On the other side of the lake to the town, there remain three volcanoes. One of these volcanos, Mount Ruapeho, was where they shot scenes for the Mount Doom sections of Lord of the Rings, and my family and I saw them doing so.
At one point they were also looking for tall, blonde children to be extras for the scenes in which the elves are evacuating. My parents applied for me & my sister but weren’t chosen.
About 10 years ago, my dad lost his job and got a bit of redundancy money. My mum had visited NZ briefly while working in Australia and had always wanted to go back and see more. My dad’s redundancy gave us both the opportunity and the means to do so, so my mum found a job over there and we lived in New Zealand for a year. I can expand more s’il te plaît
Incidentally, my sister abbreviates ‘story of my life’ to StOML, which she utters in speech as ‘stomul’ but seemingly never uses in writing. Perhaps ‘bane of my life’ should be introduced as BOML/’bomul’.
